Oregon
Three Bunker Hill names are used in Oregon, according
to Lewis A. McArthur's Oregon Geographic Names.
Bunker Hill is a neighborhood in the south part of the
city of Coos Bay in Coos County, and it was not named for the historic
spot near Boston. McArthur says it was just another timbered hill rising above
tidewater near the mouth of Coalbank Slough and called Bunker Hill because of
coal bunkers nearby. About 1906 the area was laid out for homes, and the name
Bunker Hill seemed natural. By 1990, about 1,242 persons lived in 571 housing
units on 1.39 square miles.
Linn County's Bunker Hill is a small butte southeast of
the site of a community known as Boston Mills, which had a grist mill
established by R. C. Finely and associates about 1858, with the butte named
Bunker Hill because it was so close to Boston Mills. The site was about 1
and 1/2 miles east of the present town of Shedd on the Calapooia River.
Bunker Hill in Marion County is one of the highest
points in the group of hills south of Salem, Oregon's capital. With an elevation
of 956 feet, it was originally known as Bald Hill to distinguish it from others
in the area. McArthur says stories the hill was named for a local resident seem
to be erroneous. He believes this hill was named by local residents about 1870
after the Revolutionary War site.

There are two Bunker Hills: Juniata County, elevation
672 feet; and Lebanon County.
